2017 Texas Nursing Home or Star+Plus Medicaid

***The individual applying for Medicaid must have medical AND financial need.***

Single Applicant:
Monthly Income cannot exceed $2,205; Total Assets cannot exceed $2,000.
Five Year Look-back Period for unapproved asset transfers with penalty of 1 day of ineligibility for every $162.41 transferred.

Married Applicant with a Community Spouse:
Up to $3,022.50 of the couple’s combined income can be allocated for the Community Spouse.  The remaining income cannot exceed $2,205.
Half of the couple’s assets, up to $120,900 can be protected for the Community Spouse. The remaining assets cannot exceed $2,000.

Both Spouses Applying for Medicaid:
Monthly Income cannot exceed $2,205/each; Total Assets cannot exceed $3,000.

If monthly income is more than $2,205, but not enough to pay privately for nursing home care, an experienced Elder Law Attorney can determine if they are eligible for a Qualified Income Trust.
